History: Fanshawe, Oklahoma was named after John R. Fanshawe of the Rock Island Railroad. Back in the days of the railroads a town was established about every ten miles to provide the train with a supply of water for there steam engines. The towns that were established by the railroads were usually named after some person that had railroad connections:
